Abstract

Here I describe raising my radiated tortoises from hatchlings. In the beginning, I used an indoor terrarium and later a sauna which had to be reconstructed to serve as an indoor enclosure. The main focus is directed toward special technical aspects, such as providing adequate lighting and temperature in combination with a comparatively high relative humidity. The construction of an indoor moisture box in combination with various fog making systems and how they work together with the various light and heat sources is outlined. In addition, I refer briefly to some food sources used and to an outdoor enclosure which is used during the summer. The latter is constructed directly adjacent to a solar heated swimming pool. In this outdoor enclosure the tortoises freely chose to spend the nights mostly outside the green house resting along the warm wall of the pool covered by dew covered bushes of grass.
